Mission Creek Week: Style Guide

Posted by on

It's that wondrous time of year again, fashion folks. All the tell-tale signs of an Iowa City Spring have reported for duty: happy little birdies chirping, fantastic blooms, and the highly anticipated Mission Creek Week. It may seem daunting to ditch the sweatpants and Netflix, but we promise it'll be worth it. To help you rejoin the living in style, we've put together some smashing looks and paired them with a sampling of some of Mission Creek's coolest events.

Tuesday

 LASSO LASS

Saddle up for the week of activity. Leaf Kitchen will be serving some delicious comfort food, as always. Caroline Smith will be crooning at the Mill.

The look: This vintage suede fringe vest is sure to send your soul traveling to the wild west.  Wear it with a denim skirt and some platforms and ride on, cowgirl.

  Wednesday

 KNITTY GRITTY

Tonight's vibe is a little bit country, a little bit rock n' roll. Pullman's Midwestern diner-inspired dishes will get you greased up and raring to go. Walk on over to Yacht Club to check out the twangy stylings of local songster Brooks Strause, followed by the Nashville-based Adia Victoria.

The look: Blu Pepper's olive-green crochet tank is breathable and rough around the edges. Throw on some ripped Mono B black skinnies and an Ebb and Flow carved-tusk necklace and you are one BAMF.

Thursday

CLASS ACT

You won't be thirsty this Thursday. Clinton St. Social Club is the spot for mind-blowing craft cocktails, perfect to wash down their fancy French-inspired feast with. Oui will be there. Afterward, immerse yourself in the smooth grooves of Phox.

The look: Since you're sure to have a ball, we've chosen this long and stunning navy gown by Lumiere. Keep it classy with some ornate silver studs from Mata Traders and metallic flats.

.

Friday

 DISCO TECH

There is no culinary event scheduled tonight, so we'd recommend exploring the Art + Life + Tech event over at the public library as an appetizer. Whether this leaves you hankering for hip hop or indie pop, we've got you covered.

The look: Slip on something versatile, like this second hand Bisou Bisou black and white checkered dress. For your dancing feet, you're gonna want some classic comfy sneaks, like these tried and true Keds. Don't forget your wallet! A neon statement bag should keep that safe for you.

Saturday

WHICH CRAFT

You're going to want to get an early start today. Choose your own adventure by attending the book fair at The Mill, checking out local artists at What a Load of Craft, or *gasp* BOTH! After all of that perusing, you're probably going to want to sit back and relax, maybe even have a few laughs. Have no fear, Kevin Smith, the actor/filmmaker/comedian/author/wearer of more hats than we've ever sold in our store, is here to entertain at the Englert Theater.

The look: Today is about keeping it casual, fun, and ready for anything. Try a vintage blouse with a bold and bright print. Weather permitting, show off your stems in some handmade denim cutoffs and slip on some strappy sandals.

.

 Sunday

    FUNKY FESTIVAL FINALE

The Mill's famous Mission Creek Brunch is promised to be finger-lickin' good. There is one musical act today, but don't fret, Kurt Vile's musical talents will satisfy.

The look: Get creative with this one. Anything that will allow you to move and shake in comfort is highly approved.
